About Me
Hey there, I’m Morgane Hearth! That’s “Morgane” like le Fay and “Hearth” like a live-giving fire.
Personal Background
I was born in LaGrange, Georgia, and I now live and work in Los Angeles. Since I was very young, I’ve picked up instruments the way a polyglot does languages, immersing myself in wildly different musical styles so that I could use my unique arsenal of instruments to blend them. My upcoming album, Cherisher, is a culmination of this lifelong genre transformation, as well as a testament to my own personal transformation, which took place during its recording process.
In January of 2022, I publicly came out as a transgender woman, finally acknowledging a disharmony within myself that I had always been influenced by, but never had a name for. I transitioned as an act of self-preservation, knowingly enacting changes I would never reverse and unknowingly gaining the ability to tell stories about transformation from an insider’s point of view. That’s what I do now, and presumably, what you’re here for.
Influences
Thematically, my debut album, Cherisher, centers around the personal transformations I have undergone. This is why, when writing and arranging the music for the album, I took influence from every musical project I was a part of growing up. On this album, you’ll hear the twangy fingerpickin’ of the bluegrass I was surrounded by in my hometown alongside the elaborate compositions I enjoyed as a cellist in a youth orchestra. You’ll hear the defiant energy of the punk bands I grew up playing in, the rhythmic complexity of the metal bands I idolized, and the reverent emotion of the traditional folk songs I sang with my grandparents.
These parts of me, all of which came before I understood myself well enough to transform, are not to be forgotten or deadened, but cherished.
Don’t want to read all that? Don’t care? I understand. Here are some artists I took influence from while writing this record, in no particular order:
Against Me!
Nickel Creek
Doc Watson
Belá Fleck
Meshuggah
Mastodon
Lingua Ignota
Billy Strings
By the way, the “e” is silent.
